Broden & Mickelsen is exclusively dedicated to providing aggressive and ethical representation to individuals charged with criminal offenses. The firm does this through its unique approach in which both founding partners, Clint Broden & Mick Mickelsen, play an active role in all of the firm's cases. THE PRACTICE Broden & Mickelsen represents clients charged in state courts throughout Texas from offenses ranging from DWI to capital murder. The firm also specializes in representing clients charged in federal courts throughout the nation in complex cases, and has won an extraordinary number of acquittals in federal court. In addition to representing clients at trial, Broden & Mickelsen has a very active criminal appellate practice in both the courts of appeals and the United States Supreme Court that is unrivaled by most criminal defense firms. Clint Broden, alone, has handled over sixty criminal appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and has argued over thirty cases before that court.

Mick Mickelsen

Mick Mickelsen is a native of Dallas. Apart from time studying abroad and in Washington D.C., he has lived in the Dallas area all of his life.

Mr. Mickelsen pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Dallas, a small, Catholic school which emphasizes the study of philosophy and great works of literature. Upon graduation from the University of Dallas in 1987, he attended Georgetown University Law Center and graduated there in 1990.
 
After graduation from law school, Mr. Mickelsen was hired by Michael S. Fawer. Mr. Fawer was a prominent "white-collar" criminal defense lawyer who was known for successfully representing Edwin Edwards, the governor of Louisiana, in relation to three separate indictments, and for representing Danny Faulkner in the famous "I-30" condominium scandal. Mr. Mickelsen worked extensively with Mr. Fawer in the representation of Mr. Faulkner.

In order to get "first chair" trial experience, Mr. Mickelsen joined the Dallas Federal Public Defender's Office in 1992. In his six years at the Federal Public Defender's Office, Mr. Mickelsen acquired extensive experience in virtually every kind of federal criminal case, including numerous high profile "white-collar" cases. In 1998, Mr. Mickelsen left the public defender's office to form the partnership of Broden & Mickelsen, and since forming the partnership has also developed a practice involving not only federal cases but also felony cases and DWI cases in the local state criminal courthouses.

Mr. Mickelsen is board certified in criminal law, a lifetime member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a board member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the Dallas County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and a member of the Dallas County Bar Association. Mr. Mickelsen is "AV" rated by Martindale Hubbell, an independent evaluation which identifies a lawyer with "very high to preeminent legal ability". He was also voted by his peers as a "Super Lawyer" in criminal defense in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He is currently a member of the board of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association. Mr. Mickelsen is a member of the adjunct faculty at Southern Methodist University Law School where he teaches trial advocacy.

Mr. Mickelsen is married to his wife Lisa, and is the father of three beautiful girls. In addition to practicing law and raising a family; he enjoys camping and playing bluegrass music.
